Lionel Skinner

April 6, 1936 ~ August 30, 2021 (age 85)

Obituary

Lionel Gerald Skinner, 85, of Bellaire, passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family.   He was born on April 6, 1936 in Bellaire, the son of Gerald and Edna (Kent) Skinner.

Lionel attended school in Bellaire as well as Petoskey.  He served in the United States Navy for a short time before returning home to Bellaire, where he spent the rest of his working life as a machinist at Lamina.

Lionel was an active man, and he could rarely be found sitting around.  He belonged to the men’s bowling league at the Bellaire bowling alley for over 40 years.  He was also a big supporter of athletics at Bellaire High School, rarely missing a home game.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the Detroit Tigers, and taking walks.

On October 5, 1956 in Petoskey, Lionel married Ellen (Smith) Skinner, who survives.  Also surviving are his four daughters, Brenda Abraham of Bellaire, Darleen Arndt of Hudson, FL, Patti Brissette of Wilmington, NC, and Debbie (Randy) Morris of Bellaire; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Edna Skinner; three brothers, Delbert Skinner, Irving Skinner, and Wilbert Skinner; and a half-sister, Norma Brenneman-Fettig.

A celebration of Lionel's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at Millie Lee's Farm, 3213 W Eddie School Rd., Bellaire, MI 49615.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bellaire High School Athletic Program.

Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
