William Edwin Mosher III died peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, August 12, 2026. Bill fought valiantly against Parkinson’s disease for many years.
Bill was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 19, 1942 to Ed and Jane Mosher. He attended Cranbrook schools where he excelled academically and during which time he decided to become a doctor. He was also athletically gifted, playing football, hockey, and baseball while at Cranbrook and at Williams College. Bill graduated from Williams College and the University of Michigan Medical School.
After his internship and residency, Bill was drafted into the Navy. He was stationed at Mayport Naval Station, Jacksonville Florida. Bill also served as a doctor aboard a Navy frigate— he often spoke fondly of his Mediterranean tour. Bill was honorably discharged from the U. S. Navy as a Lieutenant Commander.
After his time in the navy, Bill completed a surgical fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
Bill and his family moved to Charlevoix, Michigan in 1975 where he established his private practice as an obstetrician/gynecologist. Over his 40 years of practicing medicine, Bill delivered nearly 4,000 babies and saved many lives. Bill was a loving, compassionate doctor, beloved and respected by his patients and the community.
When not doctoring, Bill had many other interests including: hunting, fishing, gardening, cooking, reading, and traveling. Bill had a gift for story-telling—often regaling patients and friends with his wit.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Jane Mosher, his brother Richard, his son, Billy, his grandson Luis, Ann Witham, his first wife and mother of his children, and many dear friends with whom he shared lots of good times.
Bill is survived by his brother, Bob, daughters, Lisa and Melissa, his son-in-law Ryan Smith, stepsons Bobby and Hunter Christoph, grandchildren, Maren, Owen, and Avery, Bumper and Daniel, and several nieces and nephews.
Lisa and Melissa extend heartfelt gratitude to Bill’s caregiving team, especially to Michele Russell, all of whom provided exemplary, tender-loving care.
Donations in Bill’s name may be made to Friends of the Jordan River,

The Jordan river valley was one of Bill’s most favorite places on earth.
Rest and soar in Peace, Papa.
