William Kantz

William Kantz

William Kantz,  90, of Blue Lake Township, passed away on August 18, 2020 at Aspen Ridge in Gaylord.

William was born on July 1, 1930, in Hamtramck, MI, the son of Julius and Ann (Homiak) Kantz.

He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War.  He was employed by Detroit Elevator for many years retiring at the age of 60.  He permanently moved up north 13 years ago where he enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, looking at all kinds of wildlife and just being out in “mother nature”.  He could also be found tinkering in his garage for hours as well as riding around on his tractors and most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren who he was so proud of.

William is survived by 4 children, Katherine(Vernon) Gustafsson of Troy, MI, David Kantz of Southfield, MI, William Kantz Jr., of Mancelona, Todd (Jeanne) Kantz of Mancelona, 3 grandchildren, Kara Makohon-Moore (Alvin) of N.J., Andrew Gustafsson (Stephanie) of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Megan Gustafsson (Trevor Shannon) of Ann Arbor and one great-granddaughter, Charlotte Makohon-Moore.

He was preceded in death by his wife Angela Kantz, a brother Robert Kantz, sister Dorothy Koss, brother-in-law George Koss, his parents, and beloved Cocker Spaniel Peaches.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Chip Wibert.  Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.  Military Honors will follow the Funeral service at the Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton Township, MI.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes or American Heart Association.
