Willard "Bill" Shafer

Willard “Bill” Shafer, 78, of Echo Township, passed away on August 16, 2020, at his son’s home surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 14, 1942, the son of Norman and Marion (Watros) Shafer.

Bill was a long time employee of the East Jordan Iron works.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his late wife Wilma.  The two of them had a lot of fun fishing together as well as just being in mother nature.  They had a cabin in Paradise in the UP where they spent a lot of time.  Bill also enjoyed visits from his grandkids and reading westerns.

He is survived by 6 children, Edward Pinion of East Jordan, Catherine (Robert) Jedlicka of Kingsley, Oneda (Martin) Schuller of Charlevoix, Neila (Solon) Barnes of Traverse City, Jacob (Teresa) Shafer of Ellsworth and Coralee Shafer of East Jordan.

Also survived by brothers, Robert (Linda) Everett, Dale Everett, sisters, Mary (BJ) Gates, Norman (Paul) Bowers, brother- in- law Leon (Shirley) Beal, sister- in- law Beverly Hatch, 20 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Wilma, a daughter Roseann Shafer, brothers, Alfred Shafer, James Shafer, Donald Everett, Jerry Everett, sisters-in-law Thelma Beadle, Elvira Pinder, Marilyn Gibson, Patricia Hosler, and step-father Bob Everett.

Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2:00 p.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Rev. Celia Hastings will officiate.  Visitation will be from 12 noon until the time of services also at the funeral home.   Interment will be private in Dunsmore Cemetery, Echo Township.
