Vivian Newland DeMorrow

Vivian Beatrice Newland DeMorrow, 91 of Kalamazoo and formerly of Central Lake, died peacefully April 24, 2021 at Rose Arbor Hospice of Kalamazoo.   She was born Aug. 1, 1929 in Detroit the daughter of Raymond and Josephine (Uchwal) Miller.

Vivian was a photo journalist by trade.  She worked for many newspapers including the South Bend Tribune, the Kalamazoo Gazette, Watervliet Record, Bangor Express, and Benton Harbor Herald Paliadium.  She was a reporter too for all the activities going on in the local areas.

She began summering in Central Lake in 1936 and made Central Lake her official home in 1986.  Vivian loved the Lord and was a member of the Central Lake United Methodist Church where she had an active role in her younger years.  She was also a member of the Antrim County Ecumenical prayer group for many years, as well as a member of the Hartford Methodist Church.

Vivian had a passion for singing.  She was classically trained, and as a teenager she sang with the Detroit Metropolitan Opera, as well as singing with some of the big bands that visited the area in those days.  Vivian would sing for anybody, anywhere, and anytime.

Left to cherish her memories are her children Beverly Christian, Merry Williams, Jerome (Yvonne) Newland, Kenneth (Karen) Newland, David (Debra) Newland, Pastor Keith Newland, stepson George DeMorrow, 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and two husbands, Kenneth Newland and Jack DeMorrow.

Graveside services were held in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake.
