Virgil LaVanway

Virgil Merrill LaVanway 80 of Jordan Township, died June 15, 2021 at McLaren Northern Michigan in Petoskey.  He was born September 9, 1940 in Central Lake the son of Elgin and Mae (Kenney) LaVanway.

Virgil was a hard worker.  He enjoyed being outdoors along with logging and working with timber.  He was also a truck driver for many years.  Virgil’s family was very important to him and so were his horses.  He spent many years going to horse pulls too.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Sharon (Lewis), children Alice LaVanway of Gaylord, Susan LaVanway of Fairbanks, AK, 7 grandchildren Dennis (Lynda) LaVanway of Central Lake, Dakota (Claire) Dawson of Fairbanks, AK, Austin (Karlee) Dawson of Honor, Kristina (Ryan) Morton of Billings, MT, Serena Dawson of Fairbanks, AK, Heather (Brandin) Elzinga of Charlevoix, Nicole Jackman of Big Rapids, 8 great grandchildren J.R., Jackson, Jonn, Walker Jason, Luke, Amelia, Xavier, brothers Randy (Laurie) LaVanway of Central Lake, Bob (Jan) LaVanway of Boyne City, and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers Dennis, Don, Dale, and Richard LaVanway, sister Shirley Etcher, and many other extended family members.

Graveside services will be held Friday, June 18, 2021 at 12 Noon at Dunsmore Cemetery, Echo Township with Pastor David Duncan officiating.
