Victor Nelson Bloom, fondly known as Vic, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024. Born on October 17, 1943, Vic was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, who touched the lives of many.
Having joined the family business, DeForest Bloom and Septic, in 1965, Vic carried on a rich legacy that began in 1946. His commitment to the family enterprise was a testament to his dedication and strong work ethic. Throughout his life, Vic was known for his happy demeanor, giving nature, and great sense of humor.
In his midlife years, Vic cherished many adventures out west, embarking on hunting trips with close friends that would see him also traveling to Canada and Alaska. For several years he became “famous” for his homemade wine, which became the backdrop for numerous evenings spent at the shop, where stories were shared and laughter filled the air. In his last few years he enjoyed spending time at home with his sons, and his grandson Matthew.
Vic had a deep love for farming, hunting, and fishing, pursuits that brought him immense joy. He was also a passionate collector of everything, but particularly of old John Deere tractors, which he could often be found driving through the fields. One of his proudest accomplishments was raising Flemish Giant Rabbits, where he achieved a remarkable first place in the United States and showcasing them at numerous state competitions across various locations, including New York, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and North Carolina for many years.
Vic is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Gloria (McDowell) Bloom; children, Debbie (Wayne) Pardee, Vince Bloom, Matt (Lynne) Bloom, and Greg Bloom, all of Central Lake; and beloved grandchildren Wayne Pardee Jr, Brett Murray, and Matthew Bloom. He also leaves behind his brothers Eugene (Cindy) Bloom of Fairbanks, AK, Gary Buffman of Central Lake, and Daniel Buffman of Central Lake; sisters Yvonne Jones of Munroe Falls, OH, Yvette (Christopher) Egglin of Macden, NC, Lanette Quatrochi of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Yolanda (Garry) Ashby of Cuyahoga Falls, OH, sister in law Delores Bloom, sisters-in-law Cheryl Essenberg and Rita (Bob) Wilson; brothers-in-law Melvin McDowell and Mervin McDowell; along with numerous nieces and nephews, including Karen Lowry-Bloom, Luke (Jen) Buffman, Charlie Dawson, Christie Sexton, Matt Sexton, Kiefer, Carli, and Kelsi Lowry, Kristina (Ryan), Dakota (Claire), Austin (Karlee), Serena and Tegun Dawson, Logan, Devon and Erika Bloom, Dylan (Lauren) and Delaney Buffman, Trevor and Trenton Buffman, Tara, Tracy, Kelly, Casey, Shelly, Lisa, and Julie.
Vic was preceded in death by his son Todd Bloom, his parents, sister Diane Dawson, brothers Johnny Bloom and Luzon Bloom, sisters-in-law Janice and Judy Buffman, nephews Tim Buffman, Erik and Derek Bloom, and Jeff Wilson, mother and father in-law Doris and Logan McDowell.
A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes and again at 12 Noon on Saturday on September 14. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM. The service will also be held at the same location. Interment will follow in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake.
