Velma "Buddie" Swartz

Velma Louise “Buddie” Swartz, of Alden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at her home.  She was born on April 11, 1923, in Flint, the daughter of Leo and Nora (Steiner) Angell.

Buddie graduated from Ellsworth High School and went on to attend Central Michigan University for a short time before moving to Detroit to work in a factory during a shortage in workers during WWII.  She returned to Northern Michigan where she met her husband, Walter Swartz.  They moved to Flint to raise their family, and eventually retired to her parents’ home in Alden.

Buddie loved to stay busy in and around Alden; she enjoyed playing euchre, painting at the community center, playing BINGO, and much more.  She was also an extremely talented seamstress.  Buddie was also known to enjoy a glass of Canada House and water in the evenings, sometimes while watching her beloved Detroit Tigers.  She was a kindhearted woman whose smile was contagious.  She will be remembered for her sweet, kind spirit, and her wonderful sense of humor.

Buddie is survived by her daughter, Patti (Michael) Boyce; her daughter-in-law, Melissa Swartz; and two grandchildren, Mackenzie Swartz and Mitchell Swartz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter Swartz; and her son, Michael Swartz.

Buddie’s family has chosen to celebrate her life privately.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AC PAW, P.O. Box 94, Acme, MI 49610.

Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
