Timothy Ralph Matchett, 66, went to be with the Lord on May 24, 2025, winning his battle with cancer. Born to Sanford and Agatha (Ranney) Matchett on May 31, 1958, he was a lifelong resident of Charlevoix County and dedicated his life to stewarding its land, its people, and its communities.
Nowhere was this dedication more prominent than in his lifelong pursuit of the family farm. Tim was an attentive steward of the land as well as a conscientious and diligent caretaker of livestock. Over the course of his farming career, Tim had the opportunity to work alongside his parents, his wife and family, and most recently a partnership with his two sons. Tim was a lifelong student of agriculture, and teacher of that knowledge. He guided the farm business through four decades of dynamic change creating opportunities for future generations to grow from.
His family was one of the highlights of his life. Tim married his lifelong friend Linda (Himebauch) in 1984 and shared nearly 41 years of marriage. He deeply enjoyed the company of his family.
Tim was a dedicated servant of his community. These roles included serving on the Marion Township Board for 25 years, 23 years as clerk, the Marion Township Planning Commission for 44 years, and the Charlevoix County Conservation District Board of Directors for over 40 years. He was an active member of the Charlevoix County Farm Bureau, serving in multiple leadership positions including as its president for 30 years. Additionally, Tim maintained a lifelong dedication to the Barnard Methodist Church, serving in its ministries in multiple capacities including on the administrative board and a myriad of behind-the-scenes tasks. Tim enjoyed his various roles and the opportunity it provided him to bring people and viewpoints together.
In self-reflection, Tim wrote that one of the most important things a person can do is reflect Christ to the people around them. He took the opportunity to do this in everyday life through his service, humility, and hard work. All who knew Tim would reflect his servant-attitude, his quick humor, his sincere presence, and genuine interest in the needs of the people and the community around him.
The family would like to thank people for their many prayers, encouragements, and kindnesses throughout this journey. They have helped so much.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents Sanford and Agatha (Ranney) Matchett.
He is survived by his wife Linda (Himebauch) Matchett; children Isaac (Brianna) Matchett, Mia (Scott) Rhudy, Noah (Sara) Matchett, and LilyAnn Matchett; grandchildren, Weston, Lane, Kinzie, Forrest, Hayes, and one soon-to-be-born; siblings, Melvin (Judy) Matchett, Joyce (Steve) Tchozeski; many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, and in-laws; a large community of friends and loved ones.
Visitation will take place Friday evening, June 6, from 5-8 p.m. at Mortensen Funeral Home in Charlevoix. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 2 pm at Barnard Methodist Church with a graveside service to follow.
