Sylvia Lee Smith

Sylvia Lee Smith, 86, of Charlevoix, MI, passed away peacefully at home on October 13th, 2026. She was born on June 5th, 1940, to Walker and Sylvia Miles.

A lifelong resident of Charlevoix, MI, Sylvia married her husband, George, in 1958. Together, they had two children; Dee Vincent and Bob (Wendy) Smith. After living in Florida for many years, they moved home to Charlevoix to be closer to family.

Sylvia graduated from Charlevoix High School in 1958 where she was the Head Majorette of the high school band. One of Sylvia’s proudest moments was when she and the rest of the band dedicated the Mackinac Bridge during that same year.

Sylvia is known to her family as an avid crafter and knitter. She also enjoyed crocheting and cross stitching, while as of late, coloring in adult coloring books kept her occupied. In addition to her artistic talents, she and George enjoyed traveling in their fifth wheel camper across the United States. One trip in particular, a six-month trip with a group of friends to Alaska, stands out as one of their adventuring highlights. The only state they did not make it to in their travels was Hawaii, and their son Bob can be heard mentioning they never could figure out how to create enough momentum to make it across the ocean!

Her life is a testament to the good and simple things; dedication and love for family and adventure.

She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, George; children Dee Vincent and Bob (Wendy) Smith; grandchildren Melissa (Jared) Goble, Jason (Meghann) Vincent, and Kyle (Jill Flanagan) Smith; great grandchildren Kylee Vincent, Kaden Vincent, Walker Smith and Hannah Smith; in-laws Jim (Betty) Smith and Pat Miles.

Preceding Sylvia in death are her parents; Walker and Sylvia Miles; all of her siblings; Suzanne Miller, Clara Barker, Bard Miles, and Joan Miles; and son-in-law Charlie Vincent.

There are no services planned at this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to Munson Hospice.
