Sophie Thomas

Sophie I. Thomas, 77, of Rapid City, passed away on September 14, 2015 at Munson Medical Center. Sophie was born on December 31, 1937, in Kassel, Germany, the daughter of Wilhelm and Anna (Knobel) Lahmann. Sophie was a Rapid City resident since 1975 where she moved from Hazel Park. While living in Rapid City, she worked as the pizza maker for the Rapid City BP and was known affectionately as "Mom". She enjoyed bingo, reading, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren. On February 20, 1959, in Kassel, Germany, she married Eugene J. Thomas who survives. Also surviving are 5 children, Schane Thomas of Williamsburg, Vern Thomas of Rapid City, Lydia Thomas of Rapid City, Scott (John Truesdell) Thomas of Las Vegas, NV, Chrissy Budrow (Joe Gregory) of Higgins Lake, 3 grandchildren, Laken, Jacob and Mattelin, a brother Wolfgang Knobel of Germany and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services services will take place on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
