Shirley Jabara

After a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, Shirley Diane Jabara passed away peacefully on February 15, 2020.

Shirley was born on November 15th, 1938 in Antrim, Michigan to Lottie and Lester Councilor.  She married Yousef (‘Yogi’) Jabara on November 1, 1958.  They showed their family and friends the meaning of true love, as they lived life together and were devoted to each other throughout their entire lives.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Ken Councilor and his wife Carol, and her sister Roberta LaRowe and her husband Dean. She is survived by her husband, Yogi, and her children Janine Conway (Eric) and Rob Jabara (Angela).  She is also survived by Janine’s children, Jacob Conway (Tabrina), Rebecca Dykstra (Scot), Merhawi Tewoldemedhin (Luam), Andi Kraker (Ben) and Rob’s children, Jessica Jabara, Megan (Justin) Coleman and Margaret Grivas, their mother.  Shirley is survived by nine great-grandchildren:  Stefan and Miracle Kraker, Addelyn, Nova, Elara, and Mathilde Conway, and Drew, Luke, and Sam Dykstra.

Even though Alzheimer’s disease robbed Shirley of her memories these last few years, her family and friends are able to recall in detail all the ways she was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.  She will be dearly missed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Antrim Church of Christ.

A celebration of life to honor and remember Shirley will be held at the Antrim Church of Christ in Mancelona on Thursday, February 20.  Visitation will be at 1pm with the service following at 2pm.

Arrangements have been handled by the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
