Samuel Creswell

Samuel Louis Creswell II, 82, of Charlevoix, Michigan, passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. Born on December 1, 1943, in Painesville, Ohio, Sam was the son of Samuel Louis and Garnet (Hall) Creswell.

Sam proudly served in the United States Air Force and carried the values of duty, integrity, and patriotism throughout his life. He shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Maralene, whose love and companionship were the foundation of a lifetime of cherished memories.

A man of many interests, Sam enjoyed music and electronics. Sam had a passion for photography and passed that love to his girls who spent many hours with him in his dark room as he developed memories before embracing the digital age with his grand daughters, inspiring the love of the art in the next generation. He loved spending time outdoors and had a lifelong passion for genealogy, always eager to learn more about family history and the stories of those who came before him. His gentle heart extended to animals, and he was known for taking in stray dogs and cats, providing them with the care and love they deserved. He leaves behind his faithful Labrador companion, Oliver, who brought him great comfort and joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maralene; his daughters, Kristina (Daniel) Murray and Laurene Aronson, both of Charlevoix; his sisters, Leslie (Reinhold) Schott of Chardon, Ohio, and Rita Merchak of Concord, Ohio; and his treasured grandchildren, Haylee Aronson and Lillian Murray.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Donna Arndt; and his son-in-law, Brent Aronson.

Graveside services will take place on Tuesday, June 16, at 2pm, at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix.

Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
