Ruth DeForest

Ruth Logretta DeForest, 88, of Central Lake, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021 with her family at her side.  She was born on May 26, 1933, in Central Lake Township, the daughter of Horace and Clarabelle (Kooman) Marshall.

Ruth was a devoted homemaker, and she spent much of her time tending to the needs of her children and to the family’s home.  She always encouraged her children to make sure they did their best in school and graduate, which they all did!  In her spare time Ruth enjoyed gardening, reading, and putting puzzles together.

Ruth is survived by eight children, Sylvia DeForest of Central Lake, Jack DeForest of Bellaire, Kenneth (Gladys) DeForest of Bellaire, Robert (Diane) DeForest of Marshall, MI, Ronald (Leanna) DeForest of Marshall, MI, RuthAnn (Kelly) Birchfield of Mancelona, Susan (Joseph) Variot of Mancelona, and James DeForest of Central Lake; four sisters, Mickie, Melva, Irene, and Louise; two brothers, Don and Jerry; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald “Bud” DeForest; her parents, Horace and Clarabelle Marshall; two sisters, Helen and Patricia; and two brothers, Joe and Carl.

Funeral services will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 3 also at the funeral home.
