Rose Ann Broome

Rose Ann Broome, age 77, of Central Lake, Michigan, passed away on January 22, 2026, at French Manor Terra in Traverse City.

Rose was born on August, 14th 1948 in Munich, Germany to Father: Herzhal Milligan / Mother: Geneva Francis Milligan. She graduated from Fort Knox High School, 1966. On September, 22nd 1990, she married the love of her life James Broome in Williamsburg, Mi, and together they shared 35 years of marriage.

As a book lover, Rose dedicated a number of years working at the Elk Rapids Public Library and then continued her work at the Central Lake Public Library when they relocated in 2013. When Rose was not reading, you could find her in the garden, at the beach searching for Petoskey stones or doing anything with her grandchildren. She also loved to travel with her husband, taking cruises through Alaska and the Panama Canal and most recently her dream trip to Ireland. She was a Deacon and a faithful member of the First Congregational Church and spent many years volunteering with the Central Lake Lionesses.

Rose will be remembered for her beautiful smile, quick wit, generous heart, love for family and boardgames. She didn’t like to lose! She loved LaSenorita's Chicken Wings and baking Apple Pies.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Herzhal Milligan and Mother Geneva Francis Miller, as well as her siblings Herzhal (Bubby) Milligan Jr., Michal Milligan, Shirley Rothwell and Gwen Cole.

She is survived by her spouse, James Broome and their children, Daniel (Jen) Soper / Amber (Michael) Hellstrom / Deanna (Rick) Sayer / Michelle (Thomas) Maloney / Shannon (Scott) Collins as well as her beloved 13 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandbaby and her two siblings Kay Hunt and Laura Spevak.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, February 9, at 11 a.m. at First Congregational Church in Central Lake, with Pastor Gary Bekkering officiating. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral.  Burial will follow in the Spring at Maple Grove Cemetery.
