Robert "Bob" Chaika

Robert William Chaika, 78, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 22, 2026, at his home surrounded by family. He was born on November 29, 1947, in Erie, PA, the son of Alexander and Florence (Blaksley) Chaika.

Bob graduated from high school in Erie, PA, and enlisted in the United States Coast Guard shortly after at the age of 17. His time in the service brought him to many states all over the US, and he spent the last several years of his career between Charlevoix and Sault Ste. Marie before retiring in 1987. He didn’t last long in retirement…he drove truck for Harbor Industries for 14 years, and worked for his son, Alex, at ABC Landscape for 12 more.

Bob loved spending time outdoors and spent many summer months camping with his family. He and his wife, Peggy, built a cabin in Blaney Park, MI, in 1995 which they enjoyed for many years. He took any chance he could to spend time with family and friends, often over a cold drink. Bob was always tinkering or trying to fix something around the house, and he was quite the storyteller. He will be deeply missed.

On August 12, 1983, in Charlevoix, he married the love of his life, Peggy (Falting) Chaika, who survives. Also surviving are his sons, Donald Alexander (Rae) Chaika and Robert William (Nicki) Anzell; his sister, Audrey Thomas; and two grandchildren, Alexander Anzell and Elizabeth Anzell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Chaika; and his sister, Evelyn Ruggerio.

Bob’s family will celebrate his life privately.

Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
