Richard Tessmer

Richard R. Tessmer, 86, of Charlevoix, formerly of Central Lake, passed away on July 17, 2014 at Grandvue Medical Care Faclity. Dick was born on August 5, 1927 in Los Angeles, CA, the son of Ralph and May (Mendalar) Tessmer. Dick was a Central Lake resident since 1969 and was a long time active member of the Central Lake VFW Torch Post #6985. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and was an avid gardener. On September 22, 1951, in Detroit, he married Joyce Comstock who survives. Also surviving are 4 children, Peggy (Phil) Mackin of Charlevoix, Richard R. Tessmer Jr. of Texas, Kathy (Bill) Bates of Howe, IN, Ruth (Ray Alward) Tessmer of East Jordan, a sister Marion Babcock of Maryland, 11 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Lois Strebeck. A celebration of his life will be held Sat. Aug. 30, from 3 to 6 pm. The service will be closer to 3 pm and a potluck dinner will be held afterwards. Please bring a dish to pass. Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Lake VFW Torch Post #6985. Arrangements are being handled by the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
