Nancy Gene Raby (September 14, 1941 - May 15, 2026)

Well, 86 Granny. The OG Crazy Cat Lady crossed the Rainbow Bridge on May 15. For all her 84 years, she was the cat’s pajamas. She found her purr-pose in teaching, her family, and her fur babies. She was litter-ally the best. Purr-fectly paw-some. Her paws-itive outlook left us feline fine. We’re not kitten around when we say she was hiss-terical. We often could not believe what came out of her meow-th.

For those of us who knew her, we remember her wicked sense of humor. She was quick with a pun or saucy retort. For those of us who come from her, it makes sense that we were genetically predisposed with our dark and sometimes twisted senses of humor. She passed that wit to her daughter, her grandchildren, and judging by the past three years, her great-grandchildren.

Everyone chipped in with things they remember about her and what stood out in their memories: unconditional love, her years long crush on Erik Estrada, unending kindness, teaching her grandsons how to burp, generosity, her love of Drummond Island, a sometimes irreverent sense of humor, laughing as her grandsons were admonished for belching in public - when it was her, compassion, Dylan’s sexy hair, petit-fors at Christmas, many, many, many purchases from HSN, enduring loyalty and support, her Saunders sweet tooth, being habitually “tardy” for all family events, a loving nature, an unusual and somewhat inappropriate way to say “I love you” which her family has freely embraced, and acceptance of EVERYONE.

We miss you granny! Say hi to everyone on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. We’re sure you were met by many wet, cold noses and wagging tails, all the family, and another amazing grandmother waving a red scarf. We’re taking you to Drummond next spring. Until then, you can just hang out with us. Until we meet again. Haunt us if you can, we’ll be watching the lights!
