Mary Hawkins

Mary Hawkins (Murray), 75, of Central Lake, MI, peacefully passed away in her home on Monday, January 20, 2020. She was born on February 25, 1944 in Detroit, MI, a daughter of Cecil and Helena (Kraemer) Murray. After graduating East Jordan High School in 1962, she moved to Petoskey to attend beauty school. Mary was devoted to her children Luke Hawkins (Wendy Nycz) and Julie (E.J.) Castle and treasured her grandchildren Skylar (Chloe Brown) Hawkins, Jossie and Jater Castle. She was her family’s #1 fan, always attending events, games, and everything in between, but she was also a lifelong fan of the Detroit Lions and cheered them on every Sunday after church. Her radiant character warmed the hearts of those around her, as she always put others before herself. Mary battled renal failure for the past 6 years, along with other health concerns, but made sure to put smiles on other’s faces even in some of her hardest moments. Mary was preceded in death by her siblings Margaret (Murray) Lynn and Pat Murray.  Survivors include her children and grandchildren, siblings Mike, Robert (Judy), Harold (Georgia), Bill (Pat); and 16 nieces and nephews.

The family is respecting her wishes to not have a service therefore, we encourage those who wish to celebrate Mary’s life by donating to the Kalkaska Dialysis Center (415 2nd St, Kalkaska, MI 49646) in her name.

“Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail, and mortal life shall cease, I shall possess, within the veil, a life of joy and peace.”-Amazing Grace

Arrangements are in the care of the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
