MaryAnne Modjeska-Hallen

MaryAnne Modjeska-Hallen, 94, of Boyne City, formerly of Bellaire, passed away on December 17, 2023 at Grandvue Medical Care Facility in East Jordan.

   She was born on November 14, 1929, in Detroit, the daughter of Frederick and Anne Marie (Matthee) Vermeersch.

   MaryAnne married Robert Modjeska in 1951 then moved to Traverse City where they raised their family and was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.   Years later they moved to Bellaire where she also became an active member of St. Luke Catholic Church. Following Robert’s passing in 1994, she married Gerald Hallen in 2002 and later they moved to the Boyne area. While in Boyne City, she attended St. Matthew Catholic Church along with her family.

   Surviving are a daughter Katherine (Michael) Cain of Boyne City, 2 sisters, Johanne Lassaline of CO, Katherine Vermeersch of Elk Rapids, a brother Frederick (Kay) Vermeersch of Central Lake, 4 grandchildren, Karalyn Cain (Angad Chadha) of Chicago, IL, Allison Cain (Grant Schroll) Washington DC, Madelyn Cain of Grand Rapids, and Jillian Cain of Boyne City.

   Preceding her in death were her first husband Robert Modjeska, second husband Gerald Hallen, sister Margee Ruggles and her parents.

   MaryAnne was greatly loved for her positivity and gracious spirit.  Her uplifting attitude leaves behind a lasting impression and example for all who knew her.

 

   Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, December 22, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Boyne City with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until the time of mass.

   Fr. Dennis Stilwell will officiate.

   Graveside services will be at 3:00 p.m. also on Friday at Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.

   Memorial contributions may be made to Grandvue Medical Care Facility, 1728 S. Peninsula Rd., East Jordan, MI  49727.

   Arrangements are in the Care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
