Marvel Cathern Biess

Marvel Cathern Biess, 97 of Mancelona passed away February 12, 2022 at Grand Traverse Pavilions in Traverse City.  She was born April 22, 1924 in Nahma, MI, the daughter of Charles and Geraldine (Malcolm) Remington.

   Marvel was a longtime member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a member of their altar society.  She was also a member of the Busy Bees.  Marvel loved to do needle work and was extremely good at it too.   She worked various office jobs throughout her working life which ranged from a proofreader for a checking company, to a law office clerical person, and finally for the State of Michigan Unemployment office. 

   On April 29, 1950 in Detroit at Precious Blood Church, she married George Biess who preceded her in death in 2005.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Lloyd (Violet) Remington, William (Lorraine) Remington, and sister Nancy (Leonard) Kaminski.

   Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Barbara (James) Leonard of Ann Arbor, Mary (James) Horn of Oro Valley, AZ, Kathleen Biess of South Lyon, sons Richard Biess of Ypsilanti, Christopher (Stephanie) Biess of Whitmore Lake, grandchildren Jean Leonard of Lafayette, CO, James (Cate) Leonard of Brooklyn, NY, David (Lizbeth) Horn of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Michael Nicastri of Whitmore Lake, great granddaughter Maia Horn of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and many nieces and nephews. 

   A Mass of a Christian burial will be held Friday, May 20^th, at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Mancelona with Fr. Chet Collins officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery. Memorial donations can be given to St. Anthony Catholic Church, PO BOX 677, Mancelona, MI 49659.
