Mark Lewis Polzin, 96, of Bellaire, passed away on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Meadowbrook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire. He was born on September 7, 1929, in Saginaw, MI, the son of Lewis and Ruth (Tanner) Polzin.
On October 1, 1949, Mark married Beulah Azelton in Birch Run, MI. They moved to Bellaire in 1960 and had called it home ever since. They purchased the Bellaire Hardware Store in 1969 and operated it together for 30 years. Mark attended New Hope Community Church for the past 22 years, and his church family was extremely important to him.
Mark was a man who loved giving back to his community; at various times over the years, he served on the Bellaire Village Council, the Bellaire School Board, the Lions Club, and was a volunteer firefighter. He was always a joy to be around, and Bellaire was a better place because he was there. In his free time, Mark enjoyed golfing, deer hunting in Lewiston with friends and family, and doing anything related to softball – some of his favorite memories were made coaching the Bellaire Hardware team. He and Beulah spent countless hours on their houseboat, Hammerhead, which they kept docked in the Clam River. Mark will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Mark is survived by his son, Dennis (Barb) Polzin of Williamsburg; his sister, Margie Cuthbertson of Birch Run; and Claus Bech Hanson – whom they hosted as a foreign exchange student from Denmark – and his family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beulah Polzin; his daughter, Rhoda Polzin; and his parents, Lewis and Ruth Polzin.
A funeral service honoring Mark's life will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at New Hope Community Church's Youth Center, 5100 Bethesda Ct., Williamsburg, MI 49690 (the youth center is the building to the left once you pull into the main driveway of the church campus).
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 13, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, 106 S. Bridge St., Bellaire, MI 49615. There will also be an opportunity for visitation on Saturday at New Hope from 2:00 p.m. until the service begins at 3:00.
Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
