Marjorie Beverly Spence, 72, a lifelong resident of Central Lake, died Monday, December 2, 2019 at her daughter Mary’s home.

She was born September 14, 1947 in Central Lake the daughter of James and Dorothy (DuBois) Harter and graduated Central Lake High School in 1965.  On August 2, 1969 she married Richard Spence who preceded her in death in 2007.

Margie received her Masters of Education from Central Michigan University and taught in the Ellsworth elementary school for 38 years before retiring.  Margie was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Central Lake all her life.   She rang the hand bells for years, was a member of the Shepherd’s team and regularly attended women’s bible study.  Margie was also a member of the Red Hat Society and Birthday Bittie’s.

Margie enjoyed reading, counter cross stitch, drawing and stenciling.  She also enjoyed painting of all types and ceramics.

Surviving are her daughters Mary (Donnie) Clark and Danielle (Steve) Verellen, grandchildren Tyler Spence, Kaitlyn Verellen, Olivia Spence, Jeremiah (Amber) Sanderson,  Danielle Clark, 4 great grandchildren, brother James (Jeana) Harter, sister in laws Betty Spence and Linda Hilts, brother in law James (Nona) Spence, and several nieces and nephews .  Preceding her in death were her parents, her sisters Marion Spence, Velda Gardner, Nancy Bartholomew, Patty Barrens, and brother in law Ronald Hilts.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 6, at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Pastor Gary Bekkering officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home.  Interment will take place in Southern Cemetery, Central Lake.  Memorial contributions can be given to the Central Lake Fire Department, PO BOX 726, Central Lake, MI 49622.
