Margaret "Peggy" Kirk

Peggy, beloved youngest daughter of Rodger L. and Victoria A. (Giamartin) Ketchman, Peggy was born on February 21, 1926 and called home to the Lord on January 17, 2020. Peggy has joined her parents and siblings in heaven: Mary Louise, Bunny (Ken) Hoganson, Rodger A. (Shirley) and Raoul Ketchman. She grew up as a first generation Italian American and lifelong Dearborn resident.

Peggy graduated from Roosevelt High School (Ypsilanti) and earned a bachelor of science degree in early elementary education from Michigan State Normal College (now Eastern Michigan University) during the years of World War II. She taught at Clark and Haigh schools in Dearborn. The always hard working Peggy, met the love of her life, Jim Kirk, at a part-time job in high school at the Dearborn Post Office. They married June 21, 1952 and were the devoted parents of: Mike (Lisa), Pam (Richard) Smith, Joe (Debbi), Judy (James) Kirk Parker, Suzanne (Pram) Acharya, and Dr. Tim (Jennifer) Kirk. Jim preceded her to heaven in 1978.

Peggy was a faithful Mom who taught her kids: to pray at an early age, the importance of love and loyalty, that siblings stick together and stand up for one another, and to appreciate the value of a community built around family and friends.

Her legacy of love continues with 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren who will continue to cherish many Grammie moments. Her expressions of love through cooking for her family, for appreciation of nature's beauty and her bold spirit will live on in each heart that she touched.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, January 21st at 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 910 Austin Dr., Saline Michigan with visitation one hour prior. We ask that you celebrate Peggy's life with colorful attire, no traditional black please. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Peggy's memory are appreciated to Hospice of Michigan, 145 N. State Avenue, Alpena MI 49707, in gratitude for their compassionate care.
