Lori Ann Burd, 62, of Vanderbilt, formerly of Mancelona, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. She was born on March 28, 1963, in Bellaire, the daughter of Lloyd and Norma (Brown) Stark.
Lori loved spending time outdoors. The Jordan Valley – especially Pinney Bridge – held a special place in her heart, as did the Green River, where she spent many summer days as a child while visiting her grandparents. She was an avid bird watcher and had a keen eye to catch a glimpse of hummingbirds and butterflies that would pass her by. She also enjoyed bowling, kayaking, and getting her hands on a good pair of flip flops. Lori was an avid reader as well, and particularly enjoyed anything written by Danielle Steel.
Lori worked at Shanty Creek Resort for many years as a cook at both the Lakeview Restaurant as well as the Cedar River Bistro. She shared many fond memories of her co-workers whom she became very close with over the years.
Lori is survived by her father, Lloyd Stark, of Magnolia, TX; three daughters, Bobbie Jo Meadows of Mancelona, Amber Burd (Hugh) of Bellaire, and Hope Burd of North Dakota; nine grandchildren, Nick (Kayla), Samantha (Dylan), Clayton, Lucas, Madison, Owen, Destiny, Joshua, and Conner; three great-grandchildren, Ryder, Deacon, and Armani; two siblings, Greg (Ranell) Stark of The Woodlands, TX, and Tina Holz of Alba.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Long; her mother, Norma (Brown) Stark; her paternal grandparents, Lloyd and Mary Stark; and her maternal grandparents, Elmer and Evelyn Brown.
A celebration of life with a luncheon will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 3:00pm at the Alba Sportsman’s Club.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Arrangements are in the care of the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
