Lois “Loie” Connaghan, 67, of Beaver Island passed away at her home on February 16, 2023. Loie was born on May 4, 1955, on Beaver Island, Michigan, to Gene and Margaret Ellen (McDonough) Connaghan.

Loie’s parents moved to Chicago in 1956 when Loie was a toddler. Loie would come back to the Island each summer and stay with her grandparents while growing up. She moved back to the Island permanently in 2007. In Chicago she worked for her Uncle Claude at Zajakowski Design. After moving to the Island she did gardening with Pam O’Brien, and also gardened for St. James Township and Holy Cross Church. She also worked at Harbour Market and McDonough’s Market. Loie was known for her quick wit and loved by everyone.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her sisters, Marie LaFreniere of Beaver Island, MI., Roberta Griffith of Vicksburg, MI and Kim Jones of Beaver Island, MI. Nephews, Rory Connaghan of Beaver Island, MI., Keith Szczepanski of Lansing, MI., Brennan Jones of Cheboygan, MI, Turner Jones of Beaver Island, MI., and Quinn Jones of Beaver Island, MI. Nieces, Kaylyn Jones of Flint, MI., and Tessa Jones of Beaver Island, MI. Two great nephews, Mac Connaghan McPherson of Charlevoix, MI. and Teagan Connaghan of Appleton, WI.  She was preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Jerry LaFreniere, Bob Griffith, and Randy Jones.

Arrangements are currently pending and will be announced at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Beaver Island Historical Society for the Beaver Head Lighthouse Preservation Project, 26275 Main Street, Beaver Island, MI 49782.

Arrangements have been handled by the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
