Laurie Ann Macks

Laurie Ann Macks, age 62, of Bellaire, Michigan, died May 8, 2023.

Born in Bellaire, Laurie spent the majority of her life there. She held a number of different jobs before becoming the custodian at the Antrim County Courthouse, a position she held for 19 years before retiring in November 2022. Laurie had a reputation as a hard worker who always wanted to do her best.

Laurie had many gifts. She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes to share. She loved spending time outdoors. Raised on Intermediate Lake, she bought a house there as an adult and spent much of her free time fishing and kayaking on the lake, sharing her perch, walleye and trout catches with family and friends.

The rest of her free time was usually spent at garage sales and thrift stores, hunting for treasures to gift to friends or resell. She delighted in finding a bargain and was never afraid to haggle or walk away if the price wasn’t right. She was an expert on vintage glassware and dishes, and her friends and family members will long remember her holding up a piece to the light and peering at the manufacturer’s mark to judge if it was trash or treasure.

The true joy of her heart, though, was her grandkids. She loved taking them kayaking and fishing, teaching them to bargain at garage sales, and just spending time with them.

Laurie was a generous friend who could be counted on to lend a helping hand, keep an eye out for a good deal on something you had mentioned wanting, and bring a tasty dish to a gathering.

She was preceded in death by her father, Jack Harding, and her stepfather, Dale Reeves. She is survived by her mother, JoAnne Reeves of Bellaire; her brother Ron (Dale) Harding of Harrison, Arkansas; her daughter Jennifer West (Hans Imel) of Bellaire; her grandsons Coda Imel of Bellaire and Christopher Howard of Walloon Lake; and her son Brent (Sherrie) Willson and granddaughters Lila and Mya Willson of Grand Rapids.
