Kyra Peters

Kyra came into this world on April 22, 2006, and during her twenty years here, she taught everyone who loved her that a person does not need words to leave an unforgettable mark on the world.

Kyra made friends without ever having to say a word.

She found happiness in some of life’s simplest and most beautiful things—music, animals, sitting beside a campfire, and being surrounded by the people she loved. Animals held a special place in her heart, and feeding goats was one of her favorite things to do.

Kyra loved spicy flavors and the light show that danced across her ceiling whenever her projector was turned on. No matter how many times she had seen those lights before, each time they appeared, she smiled as though she were seeing them for the very first time.

Her favorite independent activity was playing with balloons.

And then there was Kyra’s laugh.

Her laugh was pure joy—magical in a way that could make time stand still. When Kyra laughed, everyone around her felt it.

Kyra was definitely not a morning person, but she loved riding the school bus that came for her each morning. Smooth roads were fine, but the bumpier the road, the happier Kyra was.

She loved the wonderful chaos of family and friends gathered together. She enjoyed hearing her sister Diasica read to her and sharing music with her sister Mikhayla. She did not need to join a conversation with words to be part of it. If her brother Howard Jr. said or did something she did not find amusing, she gave him her signature side-eye. Kyra had her own way of letting people know she was there, that she was listening, and that she was happy to be surrounded by the people she loved.

For Mom and Dad, Howard and Valerie, Kyra became the sun at the center of their universe. The family circled around her, their lives shaped by her needs, her routines, her happiness, and, most of all, their love for her.

Yet somehow, Kyra was also the one who kept everyone grounded.

Her life required others to slow down—to notice a smile, listen for a laugh, enjoy a song and sit beside a fire. To take the bumpy road and find excitement in seeing familiar lights as though they were brand new.

Kyra left this world at home on September 25, 2026. The morning of her brother's birthday. One last signature side eye for her prankster brother.

The measure of Kyra’s life cannot be found simply in the number of years she was here. It can be found in the people who loved her, the friendships she made without words, the joy contained in her laughter, and the family whose universe will forever carry her light.

Kyra was our sun.

And although our world has changed forever, the light she gave us will always remain.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
