Kim Potocki

Kim Potocki, born June 13, 1956, in Dearborn, MI, passed away May 27, 2026, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City, MI. She was a true blessing to many and a great friend who drew people in with her kindness. Kim loved people and helping them, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Kim graduated from Thurston High School in Redford, MI, and earned an associate’s degree from Henry Ford Community College. She built a successful career managing several McDonald's locations in the Detroit area, served as manager of Quality Crown and Bridge, and managed Village Car Care in Elk Rapids.

She cherished spending time with her beloved golden retrievers, and enjoyed swimming, boating, and cooking—her famous potato salad was a hit at gatherings. Kim loved traveling with her husband Jim in their motorhome and spent winters in Naples. A faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years, Kim gladly helped with luncheons and any other needs of her church community. She could also often be found watching General Hospital, or tending to her beautiful flower gardens, aptly named "Kim's Garden."

Kim married James Potocki on July 19, 1986, at Our Lady of Loretto in Redford Township, MI. They moved from Howell to Birch Lake in 1996, making many happy memories there.

She is survived by her husband, James Potocki; brother, Dallas Cox; sisters, Myrna (Jay) Carll and Lori (Terry) Dobbs; brothers-in-law, Robert (Barb) Potocki and Thomas (Sally) Potocki; aunt, Barbara Martin; nieces and nephews Ashley (Nick) Tomasek, Whitney Dobbs, Garrett (Amanda) Dobbs, Nina Cox, Kevin (Kristin) Potocki, and Kyle (Mary Kate) Potocki; great nieces and nephews Clair, Clark, Gryffin, Tyah, Logan, and Thomas; and her loyal golden retriever, Lola.

Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Myrna (Martin) Cox, and their other golden retrievers Casey, Brooke, Hannah, and Parker.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 143 Charles, Elk Rapids, MI, and a rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. Mass from the Order of Christian Funerals will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 3, with Fr. Christopher Jarvis presiding. There will also be visitation on Wednesday, June 3, from 9:30 AM until mass begins 11:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Antrim County Animal Shelter, 4660 S. M-88 Hwy., Bellaire, MI 49615.
