Kathleen R Krueger

Kathleen Ruth Krueger, 88, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 19, 1937, in Marshfield, WI, the daughter of Leeland and Eleanor (Green) Smiley.

Kathleen graduated high school in Abbotsford, Wisconsin, and went on to obtain a nursing degree from the Luther Hospital School of Nursing in Eau Claire. On September 6, 1958, in Stanley, Wisconsin, she married Richard Krueger. Together they raised three sons and lived in Ishpeming, Michigan for several years before moving to Charlevoix permanently in 1971. Kathleen worked for Dr. Lorenzo in Charlevoix for a number of years and then at Lockwood Hospital in Petoskey – now McLaren – before retiring in the mid 90’s.

Kathleen loved to play bridge any chance she could and she was referred to as the best in town by many of her friends. She was also a big sports fan, often cheering on the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, or any team playing against U of M. She was a big supporter of the Charlevoix Hospital and made a positive impact on many people through her support. Kathleen was a longtime member of the Charlevoix First Congregational Church where she enjoyed spending time with her church family.

Kathleen is survived by three sons, Greg (Debbie) Krueger of Thornton, CO, David Krueger of Charlevoix, and Tim (Val) Krueger of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Hailey (Jordan) De Nileon, Samantha Krueger, Evan Krueger, Katie (Bobby) Nolan, and Nick (Victoria) Krueger; and four great-grandchildren, Leilani, Jordan Jr., Allie, and Jack.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Richard Krueger; her sister, Barbara Bishop; and her brother, Tom Smiley.

A memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22nd, at the Charlevoix First Congregational UCC.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital, 14700 Lake Shore Dr., Charlevoix, MI 49720.
