We bid an earthly farewell to Karen Lynne Taylor(Seger, Urbanus) as she has passed away on May 8, 2025.
She was funny and quick witted. She found humor in just about everything...she loved all forms of jokes. She was an artist and was a very creative crafter. She was passionate about all creatures big and small, especially frogs and bats. She was also a very big enjoyer of all things mysterious and unsolved.
She was born in Petoskey, MI to Charles and Nancy Taylor. She went to various elementary schools in Northern Michigan as she and her family moved around the area. She loved her childhood and often spoke of her life growing up and enjoying the woods near Gaylord. She also enjoyed her family cottage on the shores of Northport in the summer. She remembers it as being very idyllic and the happiest of times.
She attended middle school and high school in Charlevoix, MI and graduated with the class of 1981. She adored her classmates and teachers. She soon became her class historian and vividly recalled something about each and every classmate. After high school she moved with her family to Wisconsin where she earned an Associates Degree in Art from UW-Wisconsin. She taught pre-school for three years then moved back home to Michigan where she worked 14 years for a newspaper/phone-guide in the graphic art department.
She is survived by her son, Benjamin L. Seger, USN, whom she often spoke so very fondly and proudly of, his wife Juliette, and her grand dog Marshall. She also is survived by her step-children: Ashley Urbanus and Kyle Ensley. She is also survived by her brother, Steven L. Taylor and many cousins, aunts, uncles, and hundreds of friends .
She was preceded in death by both her parents and grandparents. As well as many close friends and beloved pets, and most recently her beloved cat Daphne.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 16, at 5:00 pm, at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Visitation will take place from 4:30 until the time of service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honor her wishes. Interment will take place at the Leelanau Township Cemetery after the Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers, Karen would like everyone to plant a living garden for birds, butterflies, and bees. Please do not spray the dandelions.
Any donations can be made to Save the Bats Conservation or the National Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
