Karen K. Kelly-LaVanway, 66 of Charlevoix, passed away after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born May 12, 1959 in Jackson the daughter of Gerald and Dorothy (Johnson) Kelly.
Karen was an eternal optimist in the face of (much) adversity. She began her cancer journey early at the young age of 31 and never gave up hope. She was a devout Catholic and had a strong faith in God who helped her through the many trials in life.
Karen’s pride and joy was her son Parker. She was a wonderful and loving mother who sacrificed much to raise him and give him the best possible childhood. She also enjoyed her faithful companions Sugar and Buddy who were always by her side especially on the many walks in nature they enjoyed together.
Her cheerful personality brightened the lives of those she knew. She was a loyal friend and loved by all her friends. Karen was a dedicated employee and hard worker. In her younger years she worked on the Mississippi Queen and then moved back north and worked as a meeting planner for Shanty Creek Resorts.
Surviving is her cherished son Parker of Chicago, IL, her brothers John Kelly of Port Hadlock, WA, Tom Kelly of Grandville, MI, Jerry Kelly of Cape Canaveral, FL, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends, Friday, June 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday, June 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Charlevoix with Fr. Peter Wigton officiating.
Arrangements are in the care of the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
