Karen Golovich

Karen Jean Golovich, 58, of Charlevoix, passed away on Friday, March 18, 2022 at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born on April 2, 1963 in Dearborn, MI, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Jardine) Britton.

At just six years old her family moved to a small farm in Charlevoix where Karen began her love for farming. Even as a young girl Karen loved milking the cows with her dad and sister and had a name for every “pet” chicken in the coop. Karen went to Charlevoix High School, where she met, the love of her life, Scott Golovich, and graduated in 1981. Karen and Scott were married on April 21, 1984 and started their life together on the Golovich farm where they raised their two boys.

Karen was the epitome of a hard worker and had the incredible ability to bring joy and laughter into even the most mundane tasks. After a 30-year career at what is now Huntington Bank in Charlevoix, she spent the past seven years as a receipt clerk for the City. To know her, is to love her and Karen was treasured by so many people in the community.

As devoted as she was to working, Karen loved to have fun! The spring season brought some of Karen’s favorite things with it, Birthday celebrations, flowers and the opening day of the Dairy Grille! Karen was a coffee lover and was always thrilled to be surprised with a mid-day hazelnut coffee. Fittingly, Karen loved country tunes, but she also inherited her father’s love for year-round Christmas music, even if sometimes to the dismay of others, it brought her so much joy to have a little White Christmas playing months ahead of time. The holidays were always special, Karen was the family host for Christmas cookie making and loved the annual Christmas cookie exchange and shopping trips with friends. She never lost her child-like awe and excitement at the first snowfall, a true northern Michigander at heart.

Above all else, was Karen’s unwavering love and unending support of her family. From adventures on the farm, to downtown festivals, to swimming at the lake, you found Karen where her family was. Out of all the activities, wrestling season was her favorite, she didn’t miss a match or sporting event that her boys or grandkids were a part of. While Jeff and Mat were growing, she joined the sports boosters, eager to help in any way she could. There was no other place she would rather be than watching them compete; their biggest fan and greatest support, she was so proud of them all. she lived for her children and grandchildren and dedicated her life to the love she built with her husband on the family farm.

She will be dearly missed!

Karen is survived by her loving husband, Scott Golovich; two children, Jeffrey (Tiffany) Golovich and Mathew Golovich; three brothers, David (Mona) Britton, Neil (Kate) Britton, Charles (Michelle) Britton; her sister, Kathy (John) Mays; three grandchildren, Aaviyona, Kaden, and Kolten; and her father, Charles Britton. Karen is also survived by Debra Edson, Michelle (Thom) Bohnert, Dennis (Marlene) Golovich, Renee Golovich, Craig (Lois) Golovich, David (Margaret) Golovich, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine Britton, and her mother and father-in-law, Buck and Shirley (Heffern) Golovich.
