John "Jack" Matthew

John “Jack” Matthew went to be with his Lord October 1, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  Jack was born November 28, 1932 in Bellaire to Ira and Margaret Matthew. 

Jack attended Bellaire High School and participated in multiple sports.  After high school Jack went to MAC (now known as Michigan State University).  During this time, he met the love of his life, Myrna Thie of Cincinnati, OH.  They married October 22, 1955.   

Jack was an avid outdoorsmen and gourmet chef.  He enjoyed morel hunting, fishing, golf, and especially Torch Lake.  Jack and Myrna were cooks extraordinaire, loving to entertain family and friends.  In 1967 Jack started an insurance business called Group Actuaries in Grand Rapids, Michigan, which was very successful. 

He was preceded in death by his son Jeff Matthew and granddaughter Kristen Matthew.  He is survived by his wife Myrna, his sons Jay (Barb) Matthew and Jimmy (Jill) Matthew, grandchildren Jennifer (Seth) Compton, T.J. (Julie) Matthew, Emma (Matthew) Schuitema, Jeff Matthew, Henry Matthew, and great-grandchildren Addie, Bree, Kendall, Kamden, and Hudson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice, 1105 6^th St., Traverse City, MI 49684. 

Private graveside services will be held at Lakeview Cemetery, Eastport with Rev. Dan Phillips officiating.
