John "Jack" Glyshaw

John “Jack” Glyshaw, 90, died peacefully at his home on Lake of the Woods on July 21, just a few weeks after celebrating his 90th birthday.

Jack was born in Port Huron, Michigan, to Martin “Skinny” and Hermine “Minnie” Glyshaw of Smiths Creek. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marjorie (Bellaire, Michigan); three children: Karis Hollenbeck (Pennsylvania), Kathy Glyshaw (Maryland), and John Glyshaw (Oregon); and three stepchildren: Sue Evans (Maryland), Sandy Ross (New Jersey), and Joe Ross (Pennsylvania). He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Barbara Sanderson of Port Huron. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Bob” Glyshaw; sisters, Nancy Hinkley and Katherine Suzanne Glyshaw (who died in infancy); and his first wife Nancy.

Jack worked for the J.C. Penney Company for 40 years, managing stores in Germantown, PA; Mansfield, Ohio; and Westland, Michigan. A devoted Rotarian, he was actively involved in community service throughout his life.

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Jack was an avid fisherman who joyfully passed on his skills to his children and grandchildren. He had a passion for music—especially Barbershop harmony—and sang for over a decade with the Capital Cherry Chorus (of Traverse City, Michigan) as well as in his church choir.

Faith was central to Jack’s life. A lifelong Lutheran, he gave generously of his time and resources to his church, to community organizations, and to individuals in need. In recent years, he found fellowship and comfort at Church in the Hills in Bellaire, Michigan.

Jack will be long remembered for his charismatic personality, humor, and kindness to others.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, July 28, at Grace Lutheran Church,16194 Wanigan Dr., Williamsburg, MI 49690, with Pastor James Redmann officiating.

Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign his online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
