Jeffrey J. Pines 73, of Charlevoix, passed away May 4, 2021 in Traverse City.  He was born September 24, 1947 in Rogers City to Ralph Sr. and Ruth (Smith) Pines.

Jeff served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He attended Alpena Community College as well as Ferris State University.  Jeff worked for many years at St. Mary’s Cement Plant – formerly Medusa Cement Plant – as a Utility Chemist.

An avid fisherman, Jeff spent many days on Lake Michigan.  He enjoyed canning salmon, as well as fishing in the Charlevoix Area Trout Tournament and the Salmon Tournament in Rogers City with his brother, Jack.  Jeff was a member of the American Legion Post 0225, as well as the First Baptist Church of Charlevoix.

In 1980, Jeff met his future wife on a blind date, at the Holiday Inn in Petoskey.  On June 27, 1981 at the First Baptist Church of Charlevoix, Jeff married Carrol Gill, who survives.  Also surviving are children Brian (Loretta) Halbert of Charlevoix, Olin (Bobbi Jo) Halbert of East Jordan, Josh Strzyzewski of Charlevoix, Herbert Pines of Petoskey, Ruth Ann (Kurt) Wilson of Boyne Falls, and grandson Cedar Strzyzewski of Charlevoix, 13 grandchildren, Natasha, Victoria, Tyler, Donald, Andrew, Pua, Sequoia, Jeffrey, Shandelynn, Kristina, Kaylee, Kurstin (fiancé Andrew), Katelynn, 4 great-grandchildren, brothers John “Jack” Pines of Alpena, Robert (Faye) Pines of Rogers City, and sister-in-law Bennie Jane Gill of Boyne City.  Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph Pines Jr., and sister Mary Guenterberg.

Funeral Services will take place Saturday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Charlevoix with Pastor David Anderson officiating.  Visitation will be held Friday, May 7 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Winchester Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes, and again Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Church.  The family requests that masks be worn.
