Jean A. Hoogerhyde, 75, of Alba, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Medilodge of Gaylord with her family at her side.  She was born on April 8, 1944 in Grayling, MI, the daughter of Frank and Jean (Blair) Puckett.

Jean graduated from Mancelona High School in 1962, and promptly entered the military to serve in the United States Navy.  She returned home to help her mother raise two young children a few years after enlisting.  On December 9, 1967, she married Nelson Hoogerhyde in Alba.  Jean was a teacher’s aide for kindergarten through second grade and special education students at Alba Public School’s for over 15 years.

Jean will be remembered as a great mother and grandmother who loved her family unconditionally.  She also loved NASCAR, especially Kyle Busch.  She enjoyed birdwatching (Robins in particular) and admiring flowers.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Nelson Hoogerhyde; her son, Eric (Jeanne) Hoogerhyde of Mancelona; her brother, Steve Puckett of Bellaire; two sisters, Paulette Schroder of Vanderbilt, and Mary (John) Craanen of Trenton, MI; and two grandchildren, Nicholas Hoogerhyde and Michaela Hoogerhyde.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Jean Puckett; her sister, Helen Scholl; and her brother, Cecil Puckett.

No services are planned at this time.
