Janice Marie Tipton, 75, of Bellaire, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She was born on November 27, 1950, in Bellaire, the daughter of Jacob and Luella (Thomas) Watrous.
Janice graduated from Bellaire High School in 1969, and married her high school sweetheart, Charles Tipton, that same year on May 10. They raised a family of their own in Bellaire, and Janice worked at several area manufacturers over the years including ITT, Texas Instruments, Second Chance, and Armor Express.
Janice loved to spend time with her family more than anything and she cherished any time spent with them. She was the matriarch of the family and the glue that held them all together. She instilled important values in each of them and created a close-knit and loving family.
Some of her favorite moments were spent in the kitchen cooking family meals with her grandkids. They will all remember some of her favorites; homemade chicken noodle soup, cream of potato & hot dog soup, and biscuits & gravy to name a few. She also taught all the grandkids how to play poker, and she liked playing cribbage, solitaire, or various other card games any chance she could. Janice and Charles could often be found working on puzzles in the living room and anyone who stopped by had to help them find a few pieces. She also enjoyed fishing, watching westerns on TV, and watching the deer in their backyard.
Janice is survived by her beloved husband, Charles Tipton; her three children, Charlie Tipton, Mike (Kari) Tipton, and Melissa Tipton (Edward Caston), all of Bellaire; her former son-in-law, Daniel Rollins; six grandchildren, Zachary Tipton, Nicole (Josh) Fine, Amber Tipton, Mackenzie Tipton (Derek Wndish), Patience Rollins, and Audreyanna Rollins; and five great-grandchildren, AJ Carpenter, Lacy Windish, Avery Windish, and twins, Theo and Sienna Fine.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jacob Watrous, Gary Watrous, and Larry Watrous; and her sister, Judy Miller.
We are going to miss you more than words can say. We will miss the card games, the movie nights, the kitchen moments, the laughter, and the way you always told it like it was. But more than anything, we will miss you. We’d like to imagine you up there now — sitting on your bed watching Jaws, winning at cards and making sure nobody is slacking — just like always.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Arrangements are in the care of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook at www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com
