James L. Draper

James L. Draper,  95, of Bellaire, passed away on July 30, 2022 at his home.

   Jim was born on November 22, 1926, in Bingham Township, MI, the son of James and Mary (Hilsenbeck) Draper.

   As a young man, he helped with the building of the Mackinac bridge of which he was proud. He enjoyed deer hunting and farming,  eventually opening up "Drapers Farm Market" in Bellaire. In later years, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service and became a mail carrier.

   On April 25, 1945, in Traverse City, he married Ruth I. Treece who survives.   Also surviving are 5 children, Sonya (Bill) Little of TN, James "Len" (Nan) Draper of Bellaire, Christine (Dave) Endres of Traverse City, Steven (Christine) Draper of Bellaire, Lisa Draper of Bellaire, 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   Graveside services will take place on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Lakeview Cemetery, Bellaire.   Pastor Dan Phillips will officiate.

   Memorial contributions may be made to the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 235, Bellaire, MI,  49615.

   Arrangements are under the direction of the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.
