Jacob C. DeKorne, 85 of Ellsworth, died Thursday, December 9, 2021 at his son’s home in Pleasant Valley.  He was born October 14, 1936 in Grand Rapids, the son of James and Rachel (Wielhouwer) DeKorne.

Jacob was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Church in Grand Rapids.  He was also a member of the Souix Honey Association for 57 years.  Jacob was a beekeeper by trade, producing and selling honey most of his life which his legacy is now in its 5th generation.  He enjoyed woodworking, spending time with his family and could fix anything.

On November 11, 1955 he married Phyllis Fryling who preceded him in death in 2014.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, his siblings Marie, Jim, and Annie, and his great granddaughter Kenzi.

Left to cherish his memory are his children Jacob Jr. (Kathie) DeKorne of Coopersville, Susan (Randy) Neuman of Hudsonville, Timothy (Mary) DeKorne of Mesick, Mark (Mandy) DeKorne of Pleasant Valley, Daniel (Julie) DeKorne of Kent City, 18 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, siblings Bud (Judy) DeKorne, Ruth Densel, Jean Stevens, and Robert (Betty) DeKorne and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, at 11 a.m. at the Central Lake Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes with Rev. H. Hofman officiating.  The family will receive friends Thursday, December 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. also at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Atwood Cemetery, Banks Township.  Memorial contributions can be given to the Netherlands Reformed Church Bolivia Mission Fund, PO BOX 2804, Grand Rapids, MI 49501.
