Herbert Kane

Herbert Perry Kane, 93, of Charlevoix, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 13, 1933, in Charlevoix, the son of Milo and Emma (Wakefield) Kane.

Herbert attended school in Charlevoix and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. Shortly after returning home, he married the love of his life, Margot Lewis, on August 27, 1955, in Charlevoix. They went on to raise four children together.

Herb worked as a heavy equipment and crane operator, and on weekends he enjoyed his family, working in his garage, and woodworking. He was a longtime member of The American Legion as well as the Charlevoix Community Church of God. Herb loved spending time with his grandchildren, teasing them, and always had something witty to say. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Herb is survived by his four children, Susan Kane of Port Charlotte, FL, Barbie (Randy) Schnackenberg of Charlevoix, Rick (Marlene) Kane of Laingsburg, Mi, and Milo Kane of Charlevoix; six grandchildren, Aaron Schnackenberg, Emma Kane, Hannah (Zach) Wagner, Jessica (Ryan) Galbraith, Abigail Kane (Rick Grubb), and Caitlyn (Rogan) McEvoy; two great-grandchildren, Henry and Nolan; and his brother, Sam Kane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Margot Kane; and four sisters, Thurl Case, Belma Webster, Helen Shaw, and Glennie Batchelder.

Herbert will be laid to rest with Margot at Brookside Cemetery in Charlevoix in the spring of 2027.
