Henry “Butch” “Hank” Keith Wagner II, 72, of Charlevoix passed away February 20, 2017 at his home. Henry was born September 20, 1944 in Charlevoix, the son of Henry and Thelma (Roderick) Wagner. He earned his BS and teacher certification from Western Michigan University, began his teaching career in Ellsworth and taught and coached sports at Charlevoix Middle School for 30 years. He was a sports enthusiast and movie buff and enjoyed golfing, traveling, and splitting wood on his farm. Henry was also the projectionist at Charlevoix Cinemas for 20 years. In his younger years he was a life guard and swimming instructor for the City of Charlevoix,was on the recreation commission and was one of the originators of Mt. McSauba Day Camp. He was a certified Naui scuba diver and enjoyed scuba diving in Florida, Hawaii, and Central America. Henry was an elder at the First Baptist Church in Charlevoix. He will be remembered most as a great story teller especially by his students. Henry raised Labrador Retrievers at Oyster Bay Farm for over 30 years with his wife Joan G. Riley (who survives) whom he married on September 12, 1964. Also surviving are children, Annie Wagner and Ty Wagner both of Charlevoix; grandchildren, Stone and Miles Crockett, Rilyn, Katherine and Jonelle Wagner; sister, Barbara Bradley Chambers of AZ ; mother-in-law, June Fairbanks Riley of Charlevoix. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Shirley Bradley Lusk, father-in-law, Clifford Riley and brother-in-law, William “Bill” Lusk. Memorial services will take place at First Baptist Church in Charlevoix on Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 2:00 p.m with Pastor David Behling officiating. The family will receive guests for visitation one hour prior to services. Memorial contributions in Henry's name may be directed to First Baptist Church (Ministry Center/Sports Program).
