Helen Lucille Baird, 105, of Alden, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at her home.  She was born on August 12, 1916 in Rosebush, MI, the daughter of John and Viola (Schwalm) Faber.

Helen was raised in the Flint area, and she took on the role of being a mother to her siblings when her own mother passed when Helen was just 14.  She always enjoyed summering in Alden with her family, and she eventually moved north permanently to make Alden her home.  She took great pride in taking care of her children and the household.  She was also an excellent cook and enjoyed doing yardwork.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Helen (Galen) Christopher of Alden; two stepdaughters, Maureen (Sherry) VanNorman of St. Helen and Linda (Joe) Edwards of CO; six grandchildren, Michael (Lori) Christopher, Michele (Scott) Kart, Kimberly (Timothy) Routowicz, Cathleen (Mark) Hutchinson, Caren Culhane, and Jason Culhane; as well as many great-grandchildren & great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Edward Culhane; her second husband, Charles Baird; her son, John “Sonny” Culhane; three brothers, Keith Faber Sr., John Faber, and Carl Faber; and two sisters, Luella Smith and Fernanna Baird.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at the Mancelona Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes.  Visitation will take place from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services.  Interment in Helena Twp. Cemetery to follow.

Helen’s family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of Michigan for their excellent care, as well as Helen’s granddaughter Kimberly who dropped everything to take care of her for the past several years.
