Heather Rubin

Heather Maria Rubin, 52, of Charlevoix, MI, passed away unexpectedly at home on November 3rd, 2026. She was born to George "Jeff" and NormaJean Hemingway on June 7th, 1974, in Traverse City, MI.

To know Heather was to know friendship. She was the one that made her friends feel seen and heard, while making strangers feel like friends. It didn’t take long, either, for her to spark up a conversation while in a room full of people. That came often as she worked many years in the hospitality industry!

Above all else, Heather loved her daughters and her grandchildren. McKenna (Bill) Kraemer, of East Jordan, MI, and Maddi Steltzner, of Grand Rapids, MI, mourn the loss of their mother. Landen and Owen, who Heather adored, mourn the loss of their grandmother. Some of her favorite days were the ones she spent with those boys and her daughters.

It’s important not to overlook the love she had for her fur grandbabies or football, too. Heather was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Michigan State Spartans; go green! She also enjoyed the sunshine, shopping, reading, and the great outdoors that northern Michigan offered.

Surviving Heather are her daughters; McKenna (Bill) Kraemer, of East Jordan, MI, and Maddi Steltzner, of Grand Rapids, MI; grandsons Landen and Owen Kraemer; niece Mikayla Lautner of Traverse City, MI; and partner, Mike Stoneham, of Charlevoix, MI. 

Preceding Heather in death are her parents, George "Jeff" and NormaJean Hemingway and brother, Drew Hemingway.

Heather was a great member of the Charlevoix community and she will be missed by many.

A memorial visitation for family and friends will be held at the Charlevoix Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes on Tuesday, November 10th, from 4pm-6pm. 

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations to the Charlevoix Area Humane Society at 614 Beardsley St, Boyne City, MI 49712.
