Harry Wayne Rakestraw

Harry Wayne Rakestraw died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 6, 2026. He was born February 9, 1940 in Kokomo, Indiana, the son of George & Rose (Chism) Rakestraw.

He graduated in 1958 from Northwestern High School where he joined the Navy for 4 years. On April 4th 1965 in Tipton County, IN, he married the love of his life, Carol (Barnes). Together they raised 3 children. Harry coached both baseball & softball for many years. The love & patience he had for his family was immense. After 30+ years at Delco Electronics in Kokomo, IN. He and Carol retired & moved to Central Lake, MI in 1995.

Harry enjoyed fishing, bowling, watching college sports, especially Bobby Knight, Nascar, especially Dale Earnhardt Sr., fixing things, being outdoors & helping his neighbors out when he was able. He took great pride in everything he did.

Surviving Harry are children Shawn Rakestraw of Kokomo, IN, Michelle (Bob) Weesner of Mancelona, MI., brother Ernie (Marge) Rakestraw of Kokomo, IN., sister Roxie Carpenter of Central Lake, MI., granddaughters Samantha Parrish of Michigantown, IN, Savannah Rakestraw of Kokomo, IN., great-granddaughters Paisley Jean & Ava Jolee Parrish, great-grandson Waylon Lucas Parrish, brother-in-law Lloyd Barnes of Tipton, IN., along with many other nieces, nephews, & extended family.

Harry was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol, infant daughter Monica Lynn, son Harry W. Rakestraw Jr., his parents George & Rose Rakestraw, step-mother Eva (Keller) Rakestraw, brothers-in-law Jack Carpenter & William "Denny" Barnes.

A visitation will take place at Mortensen Funeral Homes in Central Lake on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 6-8pm. Interment will take place in his home state of Indiana.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
