George Foster “Jeff” Hemingway, age 76, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2022.
He was born to Foster and Opal (McDowell) Hemingway on June 9, 1946 in Detroit, Michigan. Jeff served in the Marines during the Vietnam War.
Jeff had quite a “green thumb”. He also enjoyed being on the softball field, the golf course, or riding his Harley. Jeff loved to play video games with friends. He listened to the Blues whenever he could. Jeff was known amongst the family to love his sweets, especially ice cream because, in his words, ‘there was no need for a bowl since it already came in one.’
Most of all, Jeff loved spending time with his granddaughters, and great-grandson. They meant the world to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Drew Hemingway; and long-time love, Norma Jean “Lulu” Hemingway.
Jeff is survived by his daughter, Heather Rubin; granddaughters, McKenna (William) Kraemer, Madilynn Steltzner, and Mikayla Lautner; great-grandson, Owen Kraemer; and his siblings, Elaine Henderson, Nita Dorsey, and Thomas Hemingway.
An informal gathering will be held 1pm to 3:30 pm, Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Life Story Funeral Home, 400 W. Hammond Rd., Traverse City, MI 49686. A brief celebration of life will start at 3:30 pm with military honors to conclude.
