Evelyn Redfern

Evelyn Mae Redfern 91 formerly of Bellaire, died peacefully, Thursday, October 1, 2020 in Niles, MI.  She was born July 26, 1929 in Saginaw the daughter of Irving and Edna (Lazier) Oakes.

Evelyn’s greatest joy in life was being a mother, grandmother and homemaker.  She taught all her children many skills like cooking and sewing and doing it correctly.  She was famous for her cookies and she knit all her children and grandchildren afghans and gave everyone crochet dish cloths. She also loved to garden.

Her children and grandchildren have wonderful memories of time spent with her at Torch Lake.  She loved going to MSU Football games and she enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad.

Evelyn was gentle, quiet, and sweet.  She was a strong woman who successfully raised five children and cared faithfully for her husband. She advocated for patient care at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility and volunteered many hours at the Bellaire Public Library.

Left to cherish her memory are her children David (Carole Lynne) Hyslop of Roebuck, SC, Frederick (Marian) Hyslop Jr of Greer, SC, Thomas (Susan) Hyslop of Fenton, MI, Lori Ann (Mike) Leitz Berrien Springs, MI, Julie Ann (Joe) Kimmey of Fench Town, MT, grandchildren Kevin (Robin) Hyslop, Amy (Adam) Stiles, James (Jill) Hyslop, Jonathan (Sarah) Hyslop, Angela (Corey) Johnson, Ryan (Rachel) Leitz, Nathan (Kristy) Leitz, Amanda (Luis) Acosta, Jeremiah Leitz, Lauren (Adam) Heleine, Caroline (Jake) Rathbun, Jason Kimmey, 15 great grandchildren, and one almost here.  She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Howard Redfern (2013).

Private family services will be held with interment in Lakeview Cemetery, Torch Lake Township.

Evelyn had beautiful blue eyes and a lovely smile. In her younger years she was a Registered Nurse and has now left this world a better place because of the loving care she gave to all she knew throughout her life.  She will be missed.

Arrangements have been handled by the Bellaire Chapel of Mortensen Funeral Homes. Please sign her online guestbook www.mortensenfuneralhomes.com.
