Ellen Marie Murray

Ellen Marie Murray passed away after a brief illness on November 9, 2025, at her home in Belmont, Michigan, surrounded by her family.

Ellen was born on September 12, 1952, in Edmore, Michigan, to J.D. and Dorothy Scoby. She graduated from Grand Valley State University in 1974, the same year she moved to Central Lake. For more than 30 years, she taught at Central Lake Public Schools, shaping the lives of generations of students. To many in the community, she was more than a teacher. She was a mentor, supporter, and steady presence.

Ellen became a familiar face around Central Lake. Whether cheering at sporting events, attending open houses, or celebrating at weddings, she was always there for the moments that brought people together. There was hardly a part of life in Central Lake that she wasn’t part of. It was where she felt most at home and where she loved living, working, and raising her family.

Ellen is survived by her four children: Nicole Murray; Nathan and Molly Murray; Kristyn and Jake Lombardo; and Jordan McDowell, all of Rockford, Michigan. She was also the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren who brought her endless joy.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 24, at 11:00 a.m. at Mortensen Funeral Home in Central Lake. Following the service, her family warmly invites the community to gather at the Murray Farm (4801 Dingman School Road, East Jordan, MI 49727) to celebrate Ellen’s life, share memories, and honor the impact she had on so many.
