Doris Ann Day

Doris Ann Vandergriff Day, 68, of Gaylord, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026 at her home. Born in Gaylord on July 1, 1958, she was the daughter of James and Nancy (Jewell) Vandergriff.

Doris grew up in Mancelona before moving to Gaylord. She married Marvin Day of Gaylord on July 1, 1987. She primarily worked in Gaylord for Tendercare and the Otsego Memorial Hospital. She loved making an impact on the lives of those she worked with and cared for as a nurse aid for over 30 years. Doris was an avid deer hunter and loved baseball and football. She loved to watch the Detroit Tigers, T.C. Pit Spitters, and Detroit Lions games, often traveling with the Gaylord Commission on Aging on their yearly trips to Tigers games. She loved anything Tweety Bird, as it reminded her of her youngest daughter. She loved birds, especially cardinals and orioles. Most precious to her was her family, whom she loved greatly.

She is survived by her children, Andrew (Jennifer) Day of Sixmilebridge, Ireland, Jesse (Katherine) Day of Gaylord, Kim Rutherford of Springfield, Illinois, and Jason Day of Cadillac; grandchildren, Marissa, Kendra, Tristan, Liam, Calista, Elizabeth, John, Tyler, Ajaina, Isaac, Mackenzie, Alexis, Zander, Aidan, and Ian; great-grandchildren, LaKota, Asher, Sakari, Lennox, Quincy, Cassandra, Octavia, Emilia, and Zyaire; her brother, Dan (Gloria) Vandergriff; brother-in-laws, Tom Williams, and Teddy Koons; sister-in-laws, Fern Vandergriff and Lydia Sayers; great-uncle, Robert Jewell; aunt, Aunt Boots (Beulah) Vandergriff; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marvin Day; her daughter, Doris (D.D.) Day; her premature son; her brothers, Timothy and James; her sisters, Sharon and Carolyn (Kay); and niece, Crystal Vandergriff.

A public viewing will be available on July 17, 2026 from 10am-11am at the Grace Baptist Church, located at 232 South Townline Road, Gaylord. A funeral service celebrating Doris's life will follow at 11am. A graveside service will commence at the Fairview Cemetery in Mancelona at 2:30pm. A live stream will be available on Facebook and YouTube under Grace Baptist Church of Gaylord.
