David Keith Ritsema, 78, of Ellsworth, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 29, 2026. He was born in Holland, MI on November 1, 1947, the son of John and Alice (Van Dyke) Ritsema.
When David was just a toddler, his family moved to Ellsworth in 1949. David attended Ebenezer Christian School and graduated from Ellsworth High School. From an early age, he worked alongside his father on the family dairy farm. Together, they also farmed vast amounts of corn and hay to feed their cattle. Later, David took over the dairy farm and managed it for many years, also providing quality bred heifers to other farmers in the area. Known as a simple man who took great pride in his work, David’s commitment extended beyond the farm. He loved going to farm and cattle auctions and was a loyal viewer of Channel 9.
He is survived by his sister Marcia (Joe) Jurczuk and brother Ron (Nancy) Ritsema. David’s legacy also lives on through his nieces and nephews: Mary (Scott) Gorney, Carol (Al) Drenth, Katherine (Jim) Postmus, Dwight Ritsema, Joel Jurczuk, and Stevan Jurczuk, along with many great nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. David was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will take place Monday, June 8, at 1 p.m. at Atwood Cemetery, Banks Township with Celia Hastings and Josiah Youngquist officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Family Services, PO Box 206, Ellsworth, MI 49729.
David Ritsema’s life was one of steady labor and quiet strength. His simple ways and hard work will be remembered with warmth and respect by all who knew him.
